Getting to the conference venue

This year’s Vocab SIG conference will be held at the NHBS G10 Lecture Theatre located in Henley Business School at the University of Reading, Whiteknights Campus. The postcode for Henley Business School is RG6 6UD and it is most easily accessed via the Shinfield Road campus gate (RG6 6UR).

Access by train

Reading train station is a mainline train station and is easily accessible from most other places in the UK.

There are direct rail links from many major cities, including Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Cardiff, Bristol, and Exeter, as well as a number of routes through London.

Travelling from London

If you are travelling from or via London, the quickest route to take is from London Paddington station.

Trains from London Paddington to Reading run approximately every 15-20 minutes throughout the day and the average journey time is around 30 minutes.

Access from the airport

London Heathrow

A direct bus service runs between Heathrow airport and Reading station. Buses run every 30 minutes, during the day, and take about 40 minutes. For more information, please visit the RailAir website.

London Gatwick

A direct train service runs between Gatwick airport and Reading station. Trains run once an hour, during the day and take about 75 minutes. For more information please visit the National Rail website.

For other London airports such as Stanstead, City, and Luton, there are train services although they may not always be direct. Please check the National Rail website for further details.

Access by bus and taxi

The 21 and 21a buses run from Reading train station in the town centre to our Whiteknights campus at regular intervals, 24 hours a day.

If you choose to take a taxi or bus, the bus stops and taxi rank can be found outside the station. A taxi will cost you approximately £8 and a single bus journey will cost you £1.90 (return £3.60. You will need the exact money as the buses do not give change).

Access on foot or cycling

Our Whiteknights campus is approximately two miles and around 40 minutes on foot from Reading Station. Please allow a further 10 minutes to reach a specific building or site once on campus.

Access by car

The Whiteknights campus is approximately 1.5 miles from the M4 motorway. The Sat nav postcode for the Shinfield Road entrance is RG6 6UR. Please contact the organisers if you are arriving by car so that we can arrange visitors’ parking permits for you.


On campus accommodation

Delegates can book summer accommodation at the University of Reading. Prices begin at £19.20 per night for visiting students and £39.95 for other visitors.
